This was a fairly typical Photo Heads call – the company is an extremely well presented, professional business and it is important that wherever they’re represented, it is to a high standard. The offices were lovely, the staff were all turned out impeccably, which all make the right impression with new and existing clients. With this in mind, it is so important that the the company headshots are of the highest standard too.
Before people decide to meet and discuss doing business together they will probably stalk you online. They might be impressed with your sharp dress and fancy offices but it’s possible that they have already started to form an opinion about you based on the quality of your website and its content or by viewing your LinkedIn page. These guys were fully aware of that, which is why Photo Heads were called in.
The brief was simple – professional looking headshots that presented the employees of the company as honest, relaxed and approachable. At the same time, the images also needed to reflect the professionalism of the company. The background, positioning and dress were key elements to achieving this goal.
Shooting within the office, using the building and it’s people as the backdrop for the images gave the images an honest look that a sterile white background can’t achieve. Also positioning was crucial – it was so important to get a relaxed posture from people while they were having their picture taken. At the same time it was really important to address the lens to make eye contact with whoever might look at their portrait. Finally, what people wore added to the professionalism of the overall look. I don’t think that you necessarily need to wear a suit and tie if you’re not in that industry but if this is something that your clients expect then you should probably suit and boot it for the pictures. With the overall natural look to the images the smart dress adds that nice element of balance to keep the shots looking professional.
